BRAVO LGBTQI Cultural Competency Training
February 28, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:15 pm
The BRAVO LGBTQI Cultural Competency training has been developed to facilitate and uphold inclusion of all individuals, specifically for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex (LGBTQI) communities, in Ohio’s social services, business, medical, legal, educational and non-profit services. This training covers many aspects of engaging LGBTQI individuals with cultural awareness. In addition it will cover many aspects of violence that currently affects the LGBTQI communities at higher rates than the general population, such as hate and bias violence, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking. Individuals whom identify as LGBTQI often face additional unique barriers in receiving services and sometimes receive less than adequate services or none at all. In Ohio, we want all LGBTQI individuals to be served and provided with the same level of competent services. This training consists of cultural history and norms, cultural competency and self-awareness, special populations, appropriate cultural terminology, barriers and safety planning.
Understand and examine our own biases toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex (LGBTQI) people and culture.
Increase knowledge on LGBTQI culture and associated barriers to services.
Understand appropriate language, terminology, and how to address LGBTQI individuals and communities.
Broaden understanding and increase skills and knowledge to interact with LGBTQI people across communities.
