Ohio Crime Victim Justice Center
OCVJC is a non-profit legal services organization whose mission is to protect the constitutional and statutory rights of victims of crime. They achieve this mission by providing free legal assistance to victims of crime to protect their rights, community outreach and education about crime victims’ rights, and by providing crime victims’ rights training to nurses, counselors, social workers, advocates, law enforcement, prosecutors, courts, and parole/probation officers.
Event Planning: Seeking volunteers to work together to plan events or presentations regarding victims’ rights and the services provided by OCVJC. Volunteers will receive victims’ rights training and learn about the criminal justice process. Volunteers have the opportunity to become Justice Center Ambassadors and provide community presentations. Help plan fundraising events and coordinate outreach event.
College Campus Event Team: Seeking a group of college students to work with each other to schedule events, put together a student discount/awareness card and create awareness regarding victims’ rights and the services provided by OCVJC. Volunteers will receive victims’ rights training. Volunteers have the opportunity to become Justice Center Ambassadors and provide community presentations.
Social Media Team: Seeking an intern with strong knowledge and understanding of the digital media landscape, including various social media platforms. OCVJC is currently launching a social media campaign. The intern for this position will need strong skills in the following areas: copywriting, design positioning, creativity and data analysis with the ability to draw conclusions from these statistics. They are excited to share this unique opportunity with an intern who has the drive and desire to create and implement a successful and robust social media presence from the ground up.
Photographer/Videographer: There is no better way to spread a great message then capturing the very moments we are making a difference. Ohio Crime Victim Justice Center is currently looking to create a PSA and having someone at all OCVJC events. The intern for this position will need strong skills in the following areas: design positioning, creativity, and knowledge of the digital world. Seeking an intern who has the drive and desire to create and implement a successful and robust PSA, photos and videos from events.
Victim Advocate: Volunteer advocates serve a critical role at OCVJC. Each case requires significant research and follow-up. Volunteer Advocates submit public records requests to law enforcement, coroner’s offices, and other agencies as needed. In addition, they work with crime victims to obtain confidential case related information as needed. Volunteer Advocates provide resource referrals to crime victims based upon their specific need, assist with safety planning, the crime victim compensation, and VINE.
Externship: Ohio crime victims have certain rights during the criminal justice process. These rights include: the right to be present during court proceedings, the right to give victim impact statements, the right to confer with prosecution prior to disposal of the criminal case, and the right to privacy. OCVJC enforces and protects these rights by working closely with justice system officials, providing trainings across the state, filing motions and briefs in direct representation of victims and filing amicus briefs supporting victims’ rights.
Ambassador: Seeking ambassadors to reach out to community organizations and colleges to spread awareness of our organization and what services we provide.
Community Ambassador: seeking two Volunteer Community Outreach Coordinators to work with the executive director to schedule forty, 30 minute presentations regarding victims’ rights and the services provided by Ohio Crime Victim Justice Center. Volunteers will receive victims’ rights training and work closely with the executive director. Volunteers who wish to expand upon the scheduling role have the opportunity to become Justice Center Ambassadors and provide community presentations.
