Working with Survivors
of Substance Related Sexual Assault

Purpose:

Sexual assault and trauma are widespread issues, and many clients helping professionals work with may have experienced sexual violence in their past, or more recently.  Survivors of substance-related sexual assault may experience unique concerns following an assault that are likely to affect their recovery. Through increased awareness and understanding of substance-related sexual assault, helping professionals will learn how to best support, empower, and advocate for survivors.

 

Learning objectives:

Participants will:Understand

  • Understand cultural messages about alcohol and sex
  • Learn about how and why substance-related sexual assault happens
  • Learn about unique concerns that may arise for survivors that have experienced substance-related sexual assault
  • Learn advocacy strategies to support survivors that have experienced substance-related sexual assault
