Working with Hoarding Tendencies for Survivors After Loss9/13/18
Brief Description: Reality T.V. shows continue to highlight people with hoarding behaviors and chronic disorganization struggling to find help. This workshop will address how many different types of loss can manifest in these behaviors. Both Ms. Kruzan, professional organizer; and Dr. Dennison, trauma psychotherapist, have appeared on TLC, Hoarding Buried Alive T.V. show. They currently lead psychotherapy groups in Powell, Ohio; one group, for those who hoard another for chronically disorganized. Learn more about the people, the reasons and the treatments for those who hoard or are chronically disorganized.
By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:
- Participants will learn the DSM 5 diagnostic criteria for hoarding.
- You will be given examples of survivors found in chaotic living spaces, reminiscent of their unresolved grief.
- Multiple Assessment tools to determine the severity of the problem will be presented.
- You will leave this training with (best practices) ways to intervene with this complex issue.
Bio of Presenters –
Dr. Barbara Jo Dennison, Ph.D., LISW-S received her doctorate in psychology from California Southern University and her undergraduate, and graduate degrees in social work from The Ohio State University is the owner of Dennison & Associates, Inc. a wellness firm in Powell, Ohio. She has served as an adjunct facility instructor for Capital University and for The Ohio State University. She has over 30 years of professional experience working with families in crisis situations, and first responders after traumatic events.
Karen Kruzan, LISW-S, CPO-CD® is a Certified Professional Organizer in Chronic Disorganization and the owner of K2 Organizing, LLC. She is a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers
(NAPO), and a member and Program Director of NAPO – Ohio Chapter. Ms. Kruzan earned her
Hoarding Specialist and Chronic Disorganization Specialist distinction from the Institute for
Challenging Disorganization (ICD), and is a Certified Health Information Organizer.
