Understanding and Using the Frameworks of Ethics across a Variety of Practice Settings


Social Workers and Counselors serve clients in a variety of diverse practice settings.  In all settings, social workers and counselors are charged with working through the complex ethical dilemmas, which present themselves.  This session will focus on providing knowledge of commonly used frameworks in ethics, as well as focusing on how to apply them to the unique settings of the participants.  This workshop will discuss strategies for establishing and maintaining good ethics in all settings, including developing appropriate boundaries with the organizations who employ us and the clients we serve in health care, mental health care,  and geriatric settings.


Learning objectives:

By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:

– Explore contentious ethical dilemmas, which commonly arise in various practice settings.

– Examine various levels of ethics and frameworks in ethics that can help to work through moral dilemmas.

– Develop skills to intervene effectively and positively in these contentious situations.

– Discuss the concepts of privacy and confidentiality within various clinical contexts.

– Explore challenges and strategies for better self-care, boundary setting, and developing resilience in a fast-paced work environment
