Volunteer for Strengthening Families

The Strengthening Families Initiative, led by United Way of Delaware County, is designed to create environments and opportunities where children and families can learn, grow and thrive. Volunteers can help families from across Delaware County.

Volunteer Roles at Strengthening Families include:

Toy Library Cleaner:  Help keep the germs away and clean the toy library toys. Clean all the pieces of returned toys, count toy pieces (if needed), and then note any change in the number of pieces on the label. Once you’ve cleaned all the germs away, dry the toys and put them back in their respective bag, and return toys back to the toy library in their assigned location. Available Shifts:  Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday; any time between 11:00 am – 7:00 pm. This role does not require volunteer training or BCI backgournd check.

Shop Assistant:  Help organize clothing donations for families in crisis, and assist families with finding appropriate items and sizes. Available Shifts: All Tuesdays 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm. This role does not require volunteer training or BCI backgournd check.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Helper:  Assist BBBS staff by chatting and playing games with middle schoolers! These two weeks OWU Bigs are on break and BBBS staff would appreciate help.  Available Shifts: January 8th and 15th arrive by 2:45pm.  Programming occurs from 3pm – 5pm.  Training class and BCI background check required.

Toy Librarian:  Be the first person a child sees when they step into the toy library and welcome families as they come in/out. Help families pick out developmentally appropriate toys, check toys in/out, explain the rules of the toy library, and take returned toys to the STEAM Lab for cleaning.  Available Shifts: Tuesday and Wednesdays 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, Thursdays 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Training class and BCI background check required.

Strengthening Families Greeter: If you enjoy talking, then being a part of the greeting team is for you. You will greet people as they come into the front of the building, answer any questions guests may have and/or direct them to programming on the 2nd floor. Training class and BCI background check required.

Teen Room Aide:  Teen Room is a space designed by teens (5th-8th grade), this room is a unique, ever-changing combination of events, activities, hang time and quiet coves in a safe space. A Teen Room Aide will play games and chat with teens and help facilitate any programming or assistance that is needed Available Shifts: Every Wednesday 3:00 – 6:00 pm. Training class and BCI background check required.

Dungeons and Dragons Monitor:  Help by assisting the adult facilitator (Dungeon Master) and encouraging middle school teen participants along their journey! Training class and BCI background check required.

Anime Club Assistant:  Do you enjoy Anime? Come assist our teen leaders and adult facilitators with running the Anime Club. Assist teens with Anime programming including discussions on Anime shows, drawing techniques, Japanese culture and food! Training class and BCI background check required.

STEMPossible Aide:  STEMPossible, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) program, aims to grow middle school students interest and engagement in STEM through informal STEM education programs and conversations with the local STEM workforce and community partners.   As an aide you will assist the two advisors in involving/working with through learning activities, and help spark their imagination. Attending training class required and BCI background check required. Available Shift: January 31st. Training class and BCI background check required.

Yoga Monitor:  You will help assist the Yoga Instructor by taking attendance and encourage teens and kids to have fun on their mats! First session is parents with their littles and second session is for middle school teens.  Feel free to bring your own mat and participate as well! Training class and BCI background check required.
