Interactive Self-Care for Mental Health Professionals

Self Care
Purpose:
Interactive exploration of counselor’s self-care. The science behind, a self-assessment, and strategies to apply for yourself and for your client will be offered. Helpers experience many challenges in their daily work, such as sitting all day, taking time for oneself, working with difficult clients and navigating policies and procedures. These challenges can potentially result in burnout and body fatigue or injury. We will review the definition of wellness and factors that contribute to holistic wellness. We will explore ways in which professional helpers can foster wellness through creativity. We will explore the parallel process in which helpers can model wellness for clients and others. We will end with practical wellness ideas. Self-Care Kits will be available for purchase at the conclusion of this seminar. They are equipped with 3 simple tools to help take care of our bodies and relieve physical tension in the body. Includes trigger point release ball, a therapy band for stretching and strengthening and a Bender Ball for stretching and strengthening. $10 cash or Venmo to the Trainers.
Learning Objectives:

• Participants will be able to define wellness.
