Supporting Healthy Digital Boundaries at All Ages

Purpose:
Technology is a big part of our lives, and from social media to gaming, technology use has increased exponentially. It is important for adults to recognize the impact of technology in their own lives as they partner with others to build skills for digital well-being and safety. This interactive workshop will explore how we use technology in friendships and relationships, how to model healthy digital boundaries and how online safety is a developmental process. Participants will receive tools and resources to support healthy digital boundaries. Presented by staff from The Center for Family Safety and Healing.

About the Presenter(s):

Mackenzie Lyon

Mackenzie Lyon is a Training Coordinator at The Center for Family Safety and Healing in Columbus, Ohio. She develops and delivers trauma-informed education for professionals, caregivers, and community partners across multiple sectors, including healthcare, schools, legal systems, and nonprofit organizations. With over a decade of experience in prevention, youth development, and family support, she specializes in translating complex mental health and relationship concepts into accessible, practical training. Mackenzie is dedicated to improving outcomes for children, families, and survivors of violence through high-quality education, collaborative partnerships, and community-centered systems change.

Julie Sespico

Julie Sespico is a Training Coordinator with The Center for Family Safety and Healing. As a part of the Center’s prevention and outreach efforts for the past 9 years, she specializes in bringing family violence education and trauma responsive approaches to the greater Central Ohio area, working toward the organization’s vision to break the cycle of domestic violence and child abuse and create safe and thriving communities. With that vision in mind, Julie holds certification in Trauma Responsive Care through the Tri-State Trauma Network, is an authorized facilitator of Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children and Safe Dates, and serves as a Trauma Trainer for The Columbus CARE Coalition. CARE is a first of its kind community and city led initiative here in Columbus. Under the guidance of Columbus Public Health, CARE works to increase awareness, education, and response to trauma utilizing a network of caring providers and community members.

Valeda Smith

Passionate about creating positive change within my community, I am a dedicated
Training Coordinator with over 15 years of experience in the social services field.
For the past six years, I have successfully owned and operated my own business,
providing safe spaces for women of color to gather, heal, and thrive. Through this
venture, I have not only developed impactful curricula for personal programs but
also contributed to curriculum development for other businesses. Holding a
Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and certified as a life coach, I bring a unique blend
of academic knowledge and practical expertise to my role. Known for my
unwavering commitment to serving the community, I have a strong background in
working with youth, families, and women. With a profound aspiration to open a
women’s community center in the future, I am driven by the belief that
empowerment and support can catalyze transformative change in the lives of
individuals and the wider community.
